The film is written and directed by Frank Darabont, who had previously adapted Stephen King's work and had been interested in adapting The Mist for the big screen since the 1980s. Thomas Jane as David Drayton: A painter and movie-poster artist based on Drew Struzan who is trapped in the market with his young son Billy. He survives the movie, and is subsequently rescued by soldiers. The Mist on DVD includes "Drew Struzan: Appreciation of an Artist". Signed bottom right corner "drew"
